Google Stands Up for Internet Freedom - On Wednesday morning, the US House Judiciary Committee met to discuss bill H.R. 3261, better known as Rep. Lamar Smith’s Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA). While many have voiced concern for the act’s implications, just one SOPA opponent was invited to speak at the Congressional hearing: Katherine Oyama, Copyright Counsel for Google, warned that the bill is tantamount to censorship -- “Google has grave concerns about SOPA in its current form, and we are not alone. The technology community, venture capitalists, academia, human rights groups, computer security experts, and others have all expressed their concerns.”
